Saudi Arabia and Serbia are strengthening their economic and diplomatic ties, with both nations eager to enhance collaboration in sectors such as energy, technology, agriculture, and trade. Recent discussions between the two countries have focused on joint ventures in energy and advanced technologies, as well as opportunities in information and communications technology. There is also a concerted effort to increase the presence of Serbian companies in Saudi Arabia and to promote Saudi investments within Serbia.
In a significant diplomatic move, Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister Waleed Elkhereiji and Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Duric met in Belgrade to sign an agreement that removes visa requirements for holders of diplomatic and official passports. This development is expected to facilitate smoother official exchanges, fostering closer bilateral relations.
Trade between Saudi Arabia and Serbia has seen remarkable growth, with bilateral trade reaching $121 million by 2025, a nearly ninefold increase from 2012. The upward trend continued into the first half of 2026, with trade figures rising to $130.4 million, marking a 152% increase compared to the previous year. This robust trade growth underscores the deepening economic partnership between the two countries.
Looking ahead, the upcoming EXPO 2027 in Belgrade and EXPO 2030 in Riyadh present further opportunities for investment, business partnerships, and the exchange of expertise. Saudi Arabia has confirmed its participation in EXPO 2027, where it plans to highlight its economic progress, cultural richness, and investment potential. Similarly, Serbia is preparing to engage actively by participating in the Saudi Food exhibition in Jeddah, showcasing over 50 companies.
Both nations are also exploring avenues for cooperation in science and technology. These collaborative efforts reflect a shared commitment to fostering innovation and economic growth, thereby strengthening the bonds between Saudi Arabia and Serbia.
