Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to bolster their collaboration in electricity and rail transport, aiming to enhance regional connectivity and economic cooperation. The agreement, signed by Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman and UAE Investment Minister Mohamed Hassan Alsuwaidi, focuses on improving electricity grid interconnection and developing rail links between the two nations.
The initiative is set to strengthen infrastructure integration, increase energy efficiency, and facilitate cross-border trade. As part of this agreement, Saudi Arabia and the UAE will work in tandem with other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states to expand the regional electricity interconnection network. This is expected to enhance energy-system efficiency and foster greater electricity cooperation across the Gulf region.
In addition to electricity cooperation, the MoU lays out general principles for rail connectivity, which will focus on the transportation and transit of goods and freight in both directions. This rail cooperation is anticipated to improve logistics networks, increase supply-chain efficiency, and streamline cross-border cargo movement.
By strengthening these transport and energy links, the two countries aim to drive economic development, expand regional trade, and deepen their cooperation within the Gulf. The agreement is seen as a significant step towards achieving mutual economic benefits and infrastructure integration between Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
