FREELANDER: Pioneering Advanced Technology in Premium Mobility’s Future

FREELANDER is embarking on a transformative journey as the landscape of mobility broadens beyond basic transportation. With a focus on intelligent technology, connectivity, and flexible lifestyles, FREELANDER aims to establish itself as a premium intelligent mobility brand tailored for modern drivers and global markets. The original Land Rover Freelander, launched in 1997, set the precedent for combining all-terrain capabilities with passenger comfort and versatility, paving the way for the urban off-road SUV segment. Over the years, it gained a reputation synonymous with freedom and adventure, becoming Europe’s top-selling SUV from 1997 to 2002.

Now, nearly three decades later, FREELANDER is set to redefine its legacy. At the recent IBS (Chery International Business Summit), the brand unveiled its strategic shift towards becoming a British premium intelligent all-terrain brand, through a partnership between Jaguar Land Rover and Chery. This new strategy merges the brand’s heritage with cutting-edge technologies and modern luxury mobility experiences, aligning with the automotive industry’s shift towards connected technologies and adaptable vehicles. FREELANDER is poised to release six new SUV models within the next five years, aiming for a presence in over 90 countries through more than 1,100 global touchpoints.

The Middle East has been earmarked as FREELANDER’s initial international strategic market, underscoring the region’s significance in the premium automotive sector and its rising demand for intelligent mobility solutions. The brand’s future strategy hinges on three core principles: British Craftsmanship, Smart Confidence, and All-Terrain Freedom. The newly launched FREELANDER 8 exemplifies these pillars, featuring panoramic digital displays, intelligent cockpit technologies, and second-row zero-gravity seating for enhanced travel comfort and connectivity. At its heart is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip, enabling up to eight simultaneous displays and immersive interaction systems.

FREELANDER is also committed to maintaining its all-terrain prowess through the i-ATS Intelligent All-Terrain System, supporting nine terrain modes from snow to expert driving environments. The vehicle incorporates advanced driver assistance systems, autonomous parking, and smartphone-based vehicle retrieval functions. Manufacturing operations will be centered at the Chery Jaguar Land Rover Intelligent Manufacturing Base, integrating over 1,100 robotic operations to ensure production consistency and quality. This facility marks Jaguar Land Rover’s first full-vehicle manufacturing base outside the UK, emphasizing intelligent robotics and sustainable manufacturing practices.

The brand’s latest innovation, the AiMOGA robot initiative, showcased during IBS, highlights the integration of artificial intelligence within mobility ecosystems. FREELANDER operates through five strategic global hubs, supported by more than 6,000 employees in design, manufacturing, and R&D, alongside 17 international subsidiaries and 11 research institutes. This transformation reflects the broader evolution of mobility and exploration through digital experiences and adaptable transportation, positioning FREELANDER for a new era of intelligent mobility and global expansion.
