KFSH Leads with 48% of Saudi Clinical Trials Using Cutting-Edge Technology

In a significant stride towards advancing healthcare and clinical research, King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre (KFSH) in Riyadh conducted nearly half of all clinical trials registered in Saudi Arabia during the first half of 2025. This achievement underscores the hospital’s expanding role in pioneering clinical research and enhancing healthcare delivery in the region. KFSH’s well-coordinated clinical research operations are facilitated by a dedicated team of investigators, research nurses, pharmacists, coordinators, data specialists, and regulatory and ethics experts, ensuring the seamless transition from scientific planning to patient recruitment and data management throughout clinical studies.

Established in 2020, KFSH’s centralized Clinical Trials service plays a pivotal role in supporting research conducted by its clinicians and investigators. This service is instrumental in various aspects of clinical trials, including feasibility assessments, study activation, trial operations, patient recruitment, investigational medicines, and compliance with regulatory and ethical standards. In the first six months of 2025 alone, KFSH reported 104 active clinical trials and initiated 80 new studies across diverse medical fields such as oncology, cardiovascular disease, autoimmune disorders, dermatology, gastroenterology, liver disease, and metabolic disorders, thereby providing patients with complex conditions access to emerging treatment options while generating essential clinical evidence for healthcare needs in Saudi Arabia.

A notable milestone in KFSH’s research endeavors was the commencement of a Phase I clinical trial that treated its first patient using locally manufactured genetically engineered CAR-T cells for relapsed acute lymphoblastic leukemia. This trial exemplifies the integration of local scientific expertise with advanced biomanufacturing capabilities and specialized clinical care within a cohesive research framework.

KFSH’s robust centralized clinical-trial infrastructure also facilitates participation in complex international studies, strengthening its role in global research collaborations. The hospital’s governance and specialist clinical capabilities serve as a reliable foundation for partnerships with multinational research entities, ensuring high standards in patient safety, ethics, data quality, and regulatory compliance. KFSH aims to showcase its innovative approach to clinical research and healthcare at the C3 US NYC Davos of Healthcare Summit 2026, scheduled to take place in New York City on September 14.

Renowned for its contributions to healthcare innovation, KFSH is recognized as a leading academic medical center both globally and within the Middle East. The hospital’s achievements in clinical research and its esteemed healthcare brand have garnered it a commendable position in international hospital rankings, further affirming its commitment to elevating healthcare standards through groundbreaking research and development.
