Middle East Nations Urge Two-State Solution and De-escalation in Regional Conflicts

Amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, Egypt, and Pakistan are calling for urgent diplomatic efforts to establish an independent Palestinian state and pursue regional de-escalation. During a meeting in Istanbul, the foreign ministers of these countries expressed their commitment to a two-state solution based on the 1967 borders, designating East Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine. They urged an immediate cessation of Israeli settlement expansion in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem, and called for an end to settler violence and uninterrupted humanitarian aid to Gaza.

The ministers emphasized the importance of resolving conflicts involving the United States, Israel, and Iran through diplomatic dialogue, advocating for a lasting negotiated settlement to avert further military escalation in the region. Additionally, they condemned recent Houthi attacks targeting Saudi Arabia and Yemen, particularly those affecting civilians and critical infrastructure, and pressed for a return to negotiations.

Maritime security was another focal point of the discussions. The ministers condemned attacks on commercial shipping in the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait, highlighting the potential threat such disruptions pose to global supply chains and the transport of essential commodities, including oil, food, and fertilizers. They also stressed the need to restore safe and unrestricted navigation through the Strait of Hormuz to safeguard international maritime trade.

In a separate meeting, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and Pakistani counterpart Ishaq Dar discussed bilateral relations, the situation in Yemen, and regional security. Both reiterated their commitment to bolstering cooperation and supporting peace and stability in the region, along with ensuring freedom of navigation.
