Tech Boosts Arab Stock Trading Volume by 28.8% in July

In July, Arab stock markets experienced a notable surge in trading activity, with the volume of shares traded increasing by 28.82% compared to June. This rise brought the total trading volume to 261.86 billion shares from the previous month’s 203.27 billion shares. The Iraq Stock Exchange was a significant contributor to this uptick, closely followed by Egypt. Despite the heightened trading activity, the overall value of transactions saw a decline.

The total value of transactions across these markets fell by 16.82%, dropping from $108.48 billion in June to $90.24 billion in July. This dip in transaction values was observed in various key markets such as Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Kuwait. These figures underscore a divergence between the volume of trading and the monetary value of transactions in the region.

Performance among regional stock markets showed varied results. Egypt’s EGX30 index stood out as a strong performer, registering a 5.85% gain over the month. Several other regional exchanges also posted gains, indicating some positive movement in select areas despite the overall decline in transaction values.

Meanwhile, the combined market capitalization of Arab stock exchanges displayed relative stability, with a slight increase of 0.06%, reaching approximately $4.31 trillion. This stability in market capitalization suggests that the market’s overall size remained largely unchanged, even as trading dynamics shifted.

These developments point to increased trading activity across Arab stock markets, marked by a higher volume of shares traded, even as transaction values struggled and major markets showed mixed results. The data reflects a complex landscape where trading enthusiasm does not always align with transaction values.
