Saudi Arabia’s flagship airline, Saudia, has announced ambitious plans to inaugurate direct flights between Riyadh and Tokyo starting in November 2026. This new route, which will operate three times a week from King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, marks a significant step in a joint effort with the Air Connectivity Program and the Saudi Tourism Authority to strengthen tourism and travel ties.
By establishing this direct connection, the service aims to enhance tourism, trade, and business exchanges between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Japan. This initiative aligns with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, which, along with the National Aviation Strategy and National Tourism Strategy, seeks to position Saudi Arabia as a central hub for global tourism and logistics. The new route will serve as a vital international gateway, improving access to the Kingdom.
In preparation for the launch of the new route, the Saudi Tourism Authority is actively working with partners in Japan to create travel packages that highlight Saudi Arabia as an appealing destination for Japanese tourists. This collaborative approach aims to boost the number of visitors from Japan, supporting the strategic goals associated with launching the direct flights.
The introduction of this direct flight is also timely, as it is expected to facilitate travel for the AFC Asian Cup 2027, which Saudi Arabia will host. This move reflects the Kingdom’s dedication to easing international travel for major sporting events and enhancing its position in global connectivity.
Currently, Saudia operates flights to more than 100 destinations around the world. As part of its expansion strategy, the airline plans to add 112 new aircraft to its fleet, furthering its commitment to extending its global reach and improving service offerings.
