Saudi Arabia and France Collaborate on Digital Library Initiatives

Saudi Arabia and France are deepening their collaboration in the library sector, focusing on digital preservation and professional training. This initiative was discussed in a recent meeting between Abdulrahman Al-Asem, CEO of the Saudi Libraries Commission, and Patrick Maisonnave, the French Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, held in Riyadh.

The discussions centered around an executive program between the Saudi Libraries Commission and the National Library of France. Key elements of this program include digitizing library materials, exchanging electronic copies, developing comprehensive digital collections, and offering professional training opportunities. Both parties aim to enhance knowledge-sharing and cultural cooperation through these initiatives.

In addition to the ongoing projects, the two sides reviewed future joint ventures planned for 2026. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to expand cultural and knowledge-based cooperation between the two nations, reinforcing the importance of libraries as centers for cultural exchange and preservation.
